That’s right, I’ve decided to broadcast myself. So here’s the deal …

I wrote a song yesterday about Casablanca (the film) & hemorrhagic fever (the malady) and all sorts of fun stuff like that & I thought I’d try using the iSight camera in my MacBook to make a quick record of the tune. Usually I write down the words & changes, but there’s been more than one occasion where doing so has not been enough, so I thought I’d start keeping audio-visual representations of my writing to help my increasingly-failing memory.

Then I thought I may as well share it & get some feedback to see what people think. Then I figured I may as well find out what people think about all my songs so I can get an idea about what tunes I should concentrate on when I finally start messing around in the studio (projected start date: September – coinciding with my little guy starting kindergarten).

Here’s the lyrics:

I guess I’ll always be
One of the last to see
What’s right in front of me
At least we’ll always have Paris
I’m just a lonely guy
No matter what I try
Stick a needle in my eye
Guess I’ll always wonder why

She wrote a letter on some old papyrus
She hoped that I would get some deadly virus
Like hemorrhagic fever
Or renal failure
Ever solved anything
I guess here’s looking at you, kid

I guess I’ll always be
The one that you’ll never see
I guess you’ll always be
Holding on to your dignity

She wrote a letter on some old papyrus
She hoped that I would get some deadly virus
Like hemorrhagic fever
Or renal failure
Ever solved anything
I guess here’s looking at you, kid

Looking at the way things are
I wonder if we’ll ever get that far
But I’m willing to try
Looking at the way things are
I wonder if we’ll ever get that far
Just look me in the eye
Looking at the way things are
I wonder if we’ll ever get that far

I’m just a lonely guy
No matter what I try
Cross my heart & hope to die
Live & learn as time goes by

She wrote a letter on some old papyrus
She hoped that I would get some deadly virus
Like hemorrhagic fever
Or renal failure
Ever solved anything
I guess here’s looking at you, kid

The keenly observant among may have noticed that I flubbed the words on occasion, but them’s the breaks when you get an almost live look into the songwriting process.

Please feel free to leave some feedback in comments. You may have an impact on whether this tune eventually makes it to an album release.

More vids to come soon. I hope to have something up within a week or so, and maybe this time around I’ll take a minute to cover up the laundry facilities.
