I don’t know how he does it, but every time CityTV’s Breakfast Television (BT) co-host Kevin Frankish commands me to write music, I do it.
Yesterday, he mentioned they needed some music for a segment they call “ask Kevin and Dina” (Pugliese, the other co-host) as they threw to a commercial. My silly brain wrote this tune almost instantaneously, and by the time the commercial break was done, I knew what the song would be.
I spent an hour in my laundry room/recording studio this morning and put this together:
Ask Kevin and Dina Cue – MP3, 0:24, 754KB
Yes, I’m just that bad of a singer. Deal with it.
I used 9 tracks in total – 2 doubled vocals, 4 acoustic guitar tracks (chords, bassline, lead line at the end, and some harmonics right at the very end), and some sampled finger snaps and hand claps on the last one. I used Ableton Live 6 to record everything and Propellerhead Reason 3 to trigger the samples.
I just sent it into to Kevin’s email address, so here’s hoping they like it.
Here’s what his out of the office auto-responder says:
This is an automated response.
Thanks for your email. I have to tell you, though, that I am lousy at replying, I do read each and every e-mail and do try to respond so please be patient.Kevin
A few years ago, the same thing happened when they needed a tune for their “Viewer Mail” segment, and I was successful then. I’ll have to do some hunting to find the file on that one though. It was cute; my daughter, who was only 2 or 3 at the time (she’s turning 8 in a couple of weeks) did some vocals on it.

Hi, I'm Steve Chatterton, a singer/songwriter of a collection of tunes about superheroes, fireflies, communicable diseases and such.

Would like to know where to find a star burst clock for dining room wall.
Thank you for your interest. I believe you’re enquiring about this morning’s “Where can I find it?” segment.
I have nothing whatsoever to do with the inner workings of Breakfast Television. I believe all such enquiries should be directed to bt@citytv.com
