Misery Loves Company Japanese Metal Style

June 12th, 2008 by stv

I’ve had the worst music stuck in my head for days, so I thought I’d share it:

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Yup, “Rock and Roll Crazy Nights” by Japanese hair-metal band Loudness. I watched the PowerHour on MuchMusic way too much in the 80s - chalk it up to the mountain-sized crush I used to have on VJ Teresa Roncon - and as a result I have all this cheese in my subconscious. Grrr.

Oh well, I can’t purge the chorus from my head, so I’m using the internet to spread it like a virus. Watch if you dare (suckers).

So, where are they all now?

Well, Loudness are actually still working hard. They’ve put out a steady stream of at least 25 albums since the 80s (I sh*t you not), which is no mean feat in itself. They’ve got to have a good song in the bunch somewhere (loose reinterpretation of Carl Sagan’s “sheer weight of numbers” argument - billions and billions of riffs!).

Teresa Roncon has retired from TV and gone on to work as a public relations spokesperson for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. She wants us to gamble but not get carried away (because it’s fun to experiment with habit-forming behaviour and all the potentially life-destroying/soul-sucking consequences that entails).
