Inventor to spend sweet hereafter in the can

Artist's rendering of Pringles can inventor interred in his own creation
When Fredric J. Baur passed away at the age of 89 on May 4th, his family found themselves in a slightly awkward position; Baur, inventor of the famous cylindrical Pringles can, had left instructions that his cremated remains should be interred in his creation.

Baur had worked as an organic chemist and food storage technician as part of Proctor & Gambles Research and Development division, until his retirement in the 1980s. He created the tubular container to house the oddly shaped potato chips in 1966, for which a patent was later granted in 1970.

Baur’s family have complied with his wishes, and a significant portion of his canned ashes have been buried in a Springfield Township, Ohio graveyard. Some of his ashes were also put into an urn that is now in the care of his grandson.
