Impulssive - Drums for Ableton

November 23rd, 2007 by stv

Download Impulssive

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with Ableton Live’s Impulse drum unit: I love the versatility regarding control of every sample, but I hate being limited to only 8 samples.

This new Instrument Rack fixes that problem for me, giving me nine Impulse units grouped into one track. All white notes from C-1 to B7 can now be mapped to any sample you wish to load up (in the interests of compatibility, etc., I’ve loaded it up with standard Ableton drum kits), and an array of Pitch controllers route the MIDI signals to the proper samples. Share & enjoy.

I came up with the idea in the shower the other day, but I don’t have time to actually make any music with it at the moment, so it’s up to you to take my idea and use it for something good. Apparently once version 7 comes out, there’s a new drum utility that should put this to shame, but in the meantime (and for those who, like me, likely won’t be upgrading for a while), I hope you enjoy using this.

Contact me if you actually use it in any of your tracks. Thanks.
